'Patchai Kizhi' illustrates the culture and believes that were brought into Malaysia by Tamil immigrants. It also visualises a similarity between the green parakeet (or Patchai Kizhi in Tamil) and Tamil migrants. Green parakeets are trained by fortune tellers to pick a card that would describe a person's fortune. The parakeet is trained to follows instruction and do its job. This has parallel similarities with Tamil labourers who were employed and trained to work the plantations.
